Almost Christmas!

Christmas is almost here! The kids are getting very excited as the presents went under the tree yesterday! Today the kids and I are going to bake some more christmas cookies and decorate them. These cute snowmen have been requested- they were a big hit when we gave them out to friends in my sons preschool class! Some fun treats for the holidays.

Gingerbread House

The poor children have been watching me do my christmas baking all week and kept asking if they could 'help'. Normally I enjoy letting the kids help me in the kitchen however (as I am a slight perfectionist) I really wanted the gifts I was making to be as perfect as possible- so I kept promising that we would make something together on the weekend. This morning I made the cookies for the Gingerbread House- quickly assembled it- and then let them get creative one by one. Here is the resulting debut of their decorating talents. My eldest who is 5 1/2 even managed to pipe the doors and windows (with a little help). Tomorrow they are allowed to eat it!

Reindeer Cookies

I made these beautiful little Reindeer cookies for my son to give to the children in his class at school as a Christmas gift. They were individually packaged in gift bags with a cute little sticker.

Christmas Gifts

I made these lovely gift boxes for my children's' teachers this year. I am always stuck for gift ideas for the teachers so decided homemade treats were the way to go. Each box contained 1 x Jar of Red Pepper Jelly, 3 x decorated angel cookies, 1 x bag of Tamari almonds and 1 x bag of shortbread cookies.

Aqua Ruffle Cake

I have just finished this Aqua Ruffle Cake and WOW! The birthday girl sent me a photo a few weeks ago and asked if I could make it- after a few little practice attempts at creating the ruffles I gave her the thumbs up. I am sure this one will be my first of many cakes of this style- it is just so pretty! Made with Orange and almonds and covered with white chocolate ganache. 

A lovely message from the Birthday Girl "Hi Lauren :). The cake was absolutely beautiful. It tasted just as good as it looked. My guests loved it too, they were even asking me who made it :). My Cake Decorating Debut!

In 2009 I ventured into the world of cake decorating! It was my Husbands 30th Birthday and I really wanted a special cake that both looked great and tasted great. I had always been a very good baker of cakes and desserts, however I had never attempted a novelty cake. I decided that as 90% of the birthday guests were young males, who most probably wouldn't look twice at the cake,  this was the perfect opportunity to have a go! If it was a disaster it would still taste great and no one would really care except me! In order to get myself started  I bought a cake decorating book and started teaching myself the different techniques required to create an amazing birthday cake. This is a picture of the final product! I was thrilled with the result!

Sprinkle Fairy/Wizard Wands

I am hopeless when it comes to Children's Party food- I love making it and LOVE eating it! These are my absolute favourite! The colours of the sprinkles can be matched to any theme. A lovely cute treat on any party table.

40th Birthday Funky Flower CupCakes

These bright Funky Flower CupCakes were a hit at my friends 40th Birthday. A beautiful vanilla cupcake was topped with white chocolate ganache and covered with fondant. Any colour combination would look great!

Number Cookies

When I found larger number cutters I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them- Number cookies for my sons Birthday Parties! These sugar cookies were delicious and looked great as well. They would also make a great party favour for guests to take home.

Cup Cakes in Disguise

A while ago I saw a recipe for Cup Cake Ice Creams- I thought it sounded like a very fun idea but never thought they would work. I imagined a burnt cone and undercooked cake! These were my fist attempt - easy, cute and YUMMY! The toppings could be changed to match any birthday theme.

Mini Star CupCakes

I made these cute little Star CupCakes for my son to take to pre-school on his 3rd birthday. They are the perfect size for chubby little hands and little bellies. Beautiful and fun in any colour, shape or flavour combination!

Death By Chocolate!

My friend ordered this cake to celebrate her husbands birthday and share at a dinner party . She was after something rich and chocolaty. Lindt Dark Chocolate was used in the 3 cake layers, the ganache and as chocolate plates that were placed around the outside. Yes- I think this was definitely a rich, indulgent chocolaty chocolate cake!

Noah's Ark 1st Birthday!

Noah's 1st birthday theme was an easy one- Noah's Ark. Bright colours and animals are always a hit with 1 yr olds. I was thrilled at how it turned out considering I had pneumonia at the time! This cake was coupled with some cute little animal faced cupcakes! Fun Fun Fun!

A Very Hungry Caterpillar 1st Birthday!

I got the idea for this gorgeous Hungry Caterpillar Cake after hours and hours of searching the internet for food and cake ideas for my 3rd sons Hungry Caterpillar Birthday party. It was so much fun to make and the perfect cake to help my little boy Joshua celebrate his 1st Birthday! The adults opted for a slice of the head (chocolate cake) while the kids reaches straight for the vanilla cupcakes!

Flowers

I am loving making flowers at the moment! It is a relatively new skill of mine which I am learning to perfect. These beautiful flowers featured on top of a simple yet elegant 40th Birthday Cake which I enjoyed with the Birthday Girl and her guests after lunch at Evoo last Friday. The flour-less orange and almond cake with white chocolate ganache received many complements- it was delicious!

5-4-3-2-1

Hugo and Ethan celebrated their 4th and 6th Birthday with this fantastic rocket cake at their 'Space' themed Birthday Party. Its not often I get to see the reaction of guests at cake time at a party-  I was lucky to be at Hugo and Ethans birthday with my own boys to share in the excitement- and enjoy a slice (or two) of cake!

Brewster- Chuggington

This beautiful Chuggington train was ordered for a 2yr olds Birthday Party today! He is so bright and fun- a fantastic cake and centrepiece for a little boys party.

SuperHero IceCream Cakes

For my boys 3rd and 5th Birthdays they requested a SuperHero Birthday Party with BatMan and SuperMan cakes. As Darwin is EXTREMELY hot in February I thought beautiful homemade IceCream cakes would be a huge hit amongst guests- I was right- the cakes vanished!
